Lynaae Forbes, Dr. Thomas Kenny and Ami Bayani join us again to discuss building a modern workforce in Las Vegas. The digital age and expanding economy have presented new challenges to employers and employees. One of those challenges is how we prepare our young people with the skills they need to enter the workforce.

Building a Modern Workforce

Our guests share with us the most important skills that they believe young people need to be successful in the workplace. Thomas talks about the need for excellent communication skills, especially writing skills. He even tells us how many emojis are appropriate in a professional business e-mail and explains why this professional style of communication is important.

Ami shares with us how attitudes on politeness and manners have shifted over the years. Those skills aren’t usually taught in our skills despite the need for them in the workplace. We tie that to the idea of professional communication and how it’s great for all of us to practice talking with people who aren’t inside our regular peer group.

Lynaae emphasizes the value we get from teaching things to others and how that teaching helps us learn ourselves. She points back at the days of when classrooms were for children of all ages. In that environment, the older kids would teach the younger kids while the teacher focused on working with the older kids.

Our guests discuss the skills they wish they had before they started their careers and we talk about many other things. Watch the video to hear everything these great professionals have to say!
